Talking Fire Ants to Channels 7 & 9 with Tony Perrett and David Janetzki MP at Spectrum Nursery. The Fire-Ant spread is catastrophic for nursery businesses, wildlife, sporting fields and the tourism industry on the Gold Coast.
Wesley has operated Spectrum Nursery for 27 years and he employs 25 locals. It is costing him $30,000 annually to treat for fire-ants to ensure he has none on his property. Each plant receives a chemical bath every month.
The Queensland Minister for Agriculture has been silent on a plan that stops the fire ants from spreading further south and west.
